About the Author
Thomas Cooley (PhD, Indiana University) is professor of English at The Ohio State University. In addition to Back to the Lake, he is the editor of The Norton Sampler, The Norton Critical Edition of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and the author of several other books, among them Educated Lives: The Rise of Modern Autobiography in America and The Ivory Leg in the Ebony Cabinet: Madness, Race, and Gender in Victorian America.

A great textbook, but too pricey

I'm using this book for an advanced writing course at an international business school in South Korea for students who will be studying in the US. I wish this book was available for international export and at an affordable price.
I love the essays in this book as well as the coverage of the kinds of essays students would normally write.

Enjoyable textbook, whoda thunk it?

The tips included in the book are pretty decent for a beginning English class. I love the short stories and writings that range from serious and deeply personal to hysterical op ed types (think Mindy Kaling!). I groaned when I saw my professor had picked this for class, but I was pleasantly surprised when doing the reading. Overall, quality and entertaining for a textbook.
