The author says that awareness, freedom, and love are the essence of who we really are, and are central to the Toltec tradition, which was practiced in southern Mexico by ancient artists and scientists. There are both mental health and spiritual aspects to these teachings, which emphasize the ways we distort life's potentials and diminish our own power. Though Ruiz is an excellent and compact writer, his message of opportunity falls short of inspiring in this recording by two otherwise talented actors. If I could give this book a thousand stars. ...

If I could give this book a thousand stars . . I would. Read The Four Agreements by the same author first. You won't regret it. then delve into this one. I was surprised because I learned so much more about my SELF than I thought I would reading this book, I thought it was mostly about relationships. However silly me. I didn't realize going into it that I am one half of any relationship . . and the only half I can control! so of course this book would focus on practical steps that you, the reader can take yourself while teaching more about relationships in general. Everyone on the planet deserves to read this book.

This book is just amazing! Very easy reading even for me whos first language is not English. I would recomend this book for everybody. I think what the author is talking about in this book are just basic knowledge of life!

THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIREMENT TO READ.

I absolutely love this book and the metaphors or parables the author uses to explain his point. He is very down to earth and speaks in plain english, easy to comprehend and makes you rethink how we humans perceive ourselves and the world around us. I would recommend this book to everyone I know, but I definitely recommend this book to ANYONE who has gone thru a breakup or struggling with any type of relationship; be it signifant other, platonic friend, family, mom, dad, brother, sister, children, bosses. I could read this book over and over and over again. No problems!

Tilley's 5 -Minute Veterinary Consult book has been an extremely valuable asset to my library. When the CD-Rom came out, it was even more useful in that immediate and current information can be retrieved much faster than picking up a book. It is faster since topics related to a case can be searched for and reviewed with a touch of your mouse. This information can be quickly printed and given to clients to further understand their pets diagnosed condition. This printed information alone is priceless! A client that has something in hand and can follow and confirm their veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment, helps establish the trust a client needs to have in their pets doctor.
I reach for my 5- Minute Vet Consult CD-rom more than any other resource in my library. It is very accurate and has a surprising amount of detail to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each topic. The drug search is a very helpful formulary for those quick reference needs. The most recent CD has a good number of cytology and radiographic images attached to the topics. These can be enlarged to see more closely the great detail.
In my opinion the 5-Minute Veterinary Consult CD-Rom was one of the best reference investments for my practice. It is definitely the most utilized reference I have. Time is money and this has saved me many steps and thus time and money. Every practice needs this reference without doubt!

Great user-friendly reference for vet students

This book is great when you just need the down and dirty on a disease, and don't want to wade through a 50-page description in the heavy-duty references. It was also very useful during second-year, when you're just trying your hand at figuring out the diseases, and need a little confirmation of your diagnosis and treatment plans. Or, when you're totally clueless and need help get started in the right direction. Fair warning, faculty usually won't accept it as 'reference' especially if you're trying to argue a point, but during a recent open-book final, I brought mine in anyway and there was practically a mob of other students rushing over to check out one thing or another.

My vet suggested me getting this book (I have worked for him for 6 years) and I am glad I did! It has 4 different sections in it, "Presenting Problems and Physical Findings", "Diagnostic-Laboratory Tests", "Diagnostics-Electrocardiography", and "Diseases and Clinical Syndromes". Each section has detailed information on each finding, usually two pages per each problem, which covers the Basics (definition, signalment, causes and risk factors), Diagnosis, Treatment, Medications, Follow-up and a Miscellaneous. There is plenty of information in the Appendix section of the book as well. Including a Formulary, Conversion Tables and more! I would highly recommend it to vets, students and vet techs.

New Tandem Riders Found Very Useful

We are new tandem riders. My wife, the stoker, read this book and it gave her lots of great advice. Even though I am the more experienced cyclist, she is teaching me what to do on the tandem after reading this book. Too bad it is out of print. The copy we purchased was in poor physical shape and came apart at the spine.

Great book on tandems.Lots of useful information. I hope there is an update coming out sometime. This is the second copy I've had. The first copy I bought was new when the book was in print. The binding is poor quality. You can expect the pages to come apart. Still, it is worth buying, Nothing I've found out there is comparable.

To beginners these books tend to be dangerous because they do not emphasize the unpredictability of price action in the markets and the failure of any method to handle it well. As someone who trades by scalping, I was interested in reading this book to see if it had any interesting ideas for setups. It doesn't. There are a few worthy characteristics of the book and there is some bad stuff. The good stuff is only "comparitively good" in the sense that it's better than a lot of the other books. For example, the author is very honest and realistic in explaining the dangers and losses, including his personal losses. He doesn't just gloss over it. The explanations of technical analysis are decent as far as Technical Analysis goes, but fail to emphasis the fact that there is a high failure rate in setups based on technical analysis. The high rate is not particularly higher or lower than any other method, per se. It's just high. Like all methods. The absolute worst thing in the book is the author's concept of "payout-payback." To say that a trader experiences cycles where the markets "pay you back" for the profits you have taken is simply a projection of your emotional state on to the markets, which is ridiculous. Rather than "payback" the author should be saying that his trading method gets lucky some of the time and other times fails to be lucky. If a beginner wants to read a book to learn how to trade, then go ahead and read this one and also Elder's "complete trading" in order to see how a lot of other people trade, as long as you can keep an open mind and don't take this stuff as gospel truth.

watch a good trader at work

This book is the best of trading books: First, it has excellent theory about set-ups, trading psychology and identifying good and bad streaks in the market for your individual style.
Second, it follows the author and lets you watch over his shoulder as he executes trades over the course of some days in 2003.
The emphasis is on S&P and treasury futures but the principles apply to any futures trading.
The prose is very readable. The author explains where to place stops, and focuses on his style which is largely swing trading -- selling from support into resistance or from resistance to support.
It has helped me trade better and it will help a lot of people who are getting started in futures trading.

Better than average

The most interesting concept in this book is the discussion of Payout and Payback periods. Every trader will be able to relate.

There seem to be times when nothing goes right, and other periods where one can do no wrong. The author stresses recognition of the phase that you, and the market are in, and alter trade size and agressiveness accordingly. Traders at all levels may be aided by taking this approach, or at least giving some thought to whether one is in sinc with the market or not.

The balance seems to be geared toward the novice trader, and is not a bad addition to a newcomer's trading library. Certainly, many, many worse books are read each day.

About the Author

KE LIU, PhD, MBA, is the Principal Scientist and Project Leader of the Energy and Propulsion Technologies Division of GE Global Research Center, working on different technologies related to gasification, IGCC, syngas, and fuel conversion. Currently, he leads a team of engineers to develop the dry feeding technology for next-generation GE gasifier for high-moisture, low-rank coal and biomass gasification. Dr. Liu started his career at Exxon-Mobil and then UTC Fuel Cells, working on various fuel and H2 production technologies. He is not only a leading expert on energy, fuels, and gasification, but also an industrial leader who led many large R&D projects funded by DOE and large U.S. energy corporations such as GE, Shell-UTC, and Exxon-Mobil. A recipient of numerous awards, including the 2006 National Emerald Honors Special Recognition Award, Dr. Liu has served as a board member and program chair of International Pittsburgh Coal Conference, a board member of the Energy Center of CalTech (PEER), and the associate editor of the Energy and Fuels Journal.

CHUNSHAN SONG, PhD, is a Professor of Fuel Science and Chemical Engineering and the Director of the EMS Energy Institute at Pennsylvania State University. A recipient of numerous awards, he has been extensively published, and his research on clean fuels and catalysis has been funded by government and industry. Also, Dr. Song has served as chair for the ACS Division of Petroleum Chemistry; chair for ACS Fuel Chemistry Division; and advisory board chair and program chair for International Pittsburgh Coal Conference.

VELU SUBRAMANI, PhD, is a Research Scientist working for the BP Refining and Logistics Technology team. He has over fifteen years of research experience in heterogeneous catalysis for fine chemicals synthesis, energy production, and environmental protection. He is the recipient of research fellowships from Switzerland and the Science and Technology Agency (STA) of Japan. Dr. Subramani is the author of over fifty peer-reviewed articles in international journals and the author or co-author of several patents. He served as the program chair for the ACS Division of Fuel Chemistry.

Funny Advice for All Artists

We artists are a sensitive bunch. We don't respond well to helpful criticism, beat ourselves over the head when we fail at being original, hit frequent creative blocks, compare ourselves unfavorably with others, and generally have no friggin' idea if what we're doing feels right. Author/collage artist Danielle Krysa understands the ordeal all too well. Together with illustrator Martha Rich, she deals with all that messy painful stuff with cheer and good humor in her book Your Inner Critic Is a Big Jerk.

Although a lot of the advice in this book seems overly familiar and common sensical, it's actually a great comfort to read someone else's hacking out of these issues and offering tangible solutions. The book is organized in ten neat chapters, each one filled with personal anecdotes, testimonials from other artists, and fun, creativity-boosting exercises to break anyone of their creative funk. The workshops and cute illustrations seem geared more heavily toward young female artists still searching for their voice, although even a seasoned professional can glean a lot from Krysa's pragmatic, never-preachy tone. As a man in his '40s still struggling to get a foothold in the commercial illustration world, I could relate emphatically to much of Krysa's woes. The best advice of all? Just do something, anything!
